Why We Built deepstint

The productivity market builds tools for people who do not actually need them. They sell complex filing cabinets to people who already know how to sit down and start working.

Most software assumes that if you just organize your tasks clearly enough, the execution will happen automatically. For a massive segment of the population, and specifically for ADHD brains, that assumption is entirely backward. The organization is the easy part. The execution is the wall.

The planning trap

We built deepstint because planning has become a highly effective procrastination tool. When you give someone a blank database, they will spend two hours color-coding their backlog. They will feel productive. They will have accomplished nothing.

Execution requires a completely different cognitive environment. You cannot execute inside the same interface where you plan. Every tag, column, and unfinished checkbox is an invitation to manage the system instead of doing the work.

deepstint isolates execution. The focus mode empties the screen down to the timer and the task. The system takes the decisions away so the work can start.

The failure of gamification

We looked at the existing focus market and found a landscape built on loss aversion. Apps use streaks, points, and digital rewards to force compliance. This works for neurotypical brains automating a simple habit. It backfires violently for anyone struggling with executive dysfunction.

When you miss a day, the broken streak triggers a shame response. You stop opening the app to avoid the bad feeling. The tool that was supposed to keep you consistent becomes the exact reason you abandon the work.

We stripped out every loss-framed mechanic. deepstint forgives lapses by design. Abandoning a session does not lose your data. Missed days do not trigger red warnings. A tool should hold your record without judging it.

Systems over tools

A tool requires you to figure out how to use it. A system dictates a workflow. We built specific features to force execution.

  • The "I'm stuck" button picks a task and starts a 10-minute stint automatically.
  • The focus mode hides notifications to protect the attention you captured.
  • The History tab provides an honest daily review without scoring your effort.

Willpower is not a strategy. You do not need to try harder. You just need an environment that stops actively working against you.

Design principle: minimize decisions, protect focus.

Stop organizing your backlog. Open deepstint, click the "I'm stuck" button, and start moving.

Common questions

Why was deepstint created?

Standard productivity tools optimize for planning and database management. deepstint was built to solve the execution problem. It reduces the friction of starting a task and provides honest tracking without manufacturing guilt.

How is deepstint different from other focus tools?

It treats productivity as an execution system. It limits decisions, removes gamification and streaks, and protects attention rather than demanding engagement.
